Economic and territorial structure

Investment attractiveness of the Krasnoyarsk Krai is determined by a complex of external and domestic factors, which are formed under the influence of both positive and negative tendencies of social and economic development, such as the degree of stability and financial independence, living standards of the population and business activity.

Natural and geographical competitive advantages of the region are determined by its favorable geographical and geopolitical position.

The Krasnoyarsk Krai is:
• one of the largest regions in Russia: its total area is 2 366,8 thousand sq. kilometers (13,7 % of Russia’s territory. It is the second largest territory); population is 2 893,4 thousand (13th place among the Russia’s regions), The Krai stretches for almost 3 000 kilometers from the Arctic Ocean to the mountainous regions of the Southern Siberia;
• a region exceptionally rich in raw materials with unique fuel, mineral and hydro-energy resources;
• a region famous for the large reserves of timber. Forests consist of larch, pine-tree, cedar, fir, silver fir, and birch. The total area of timber foundation (including the Taimyr (Dolgano-Nenetsk) and the Evenkiya municipal districts) is 155 781,2 thousand hectares (i.e. 45,1 % of Siberian Federal District wood tract supplies). The total supply of main kinds of timber is 11 120,22 million cub. meters (36,4 % of Siberian Federal District total reserve);
• the largest Russian exporter of non-ferrous metals of high demand and degree of liquidity in international markets (30,1 % of export in trade turnover of Russia); non-precious metals and metal-ceramics; valuable sorts of wood and products of them; products of inorganic chemistry; nuclear and energetic equipment; mineral raw materials; oil and gas products; synthetic materials, etc.;
• a region with access to the Northern Sea Route through the Yenisei River and with a large traffic centre in the Krasnoyarsk city (the place where the Yenisei River is crossed by the Trans-Siberian Railroad and the Moscow — Vladivostok highway);
• a region crossed by a number of domestic and international air routes.

Manufacturing and economic competitive advantages of the region are determined by the current state of the regional economy and availability of resources for its development in the future:
• the Krai is an important industrial region of Russia (the volume of the shipped goods according to the types of economic activities in 2007 made 618,2 billion rubles and increased by 23 %. It ranks seventh among Russian regions in volume of shipped goods of own production per head);
• a lot of industrial enterprises, including the ones representing the military industrial establishments, are located in the Krasnoyarsk Krai. This provides great opportunities for diversification and development of the economy;
• a substantial number of highly qualified and skilled work force is available in the region;
• the region is the scientific center of Siberia. Advanced branch, scientific institutes and the Siberian Federal University are located on its territory;
• there is a number of opportunities for vertical integration of production based on exploitation of local reserves of natural resources and deep processing of them;
• much of scientific and innovative potential of Siberia is concentrated in the Krasnoyarsk Krai. It gives an opportunity for organization of science-intensive types of production;
• there is a number of large export-oriented enterprises, which products are in popular demand on the world market;
• there are great opportunities for a large cooperation with the neighboring regions, CIS and foreign countries, as well as for diversification of foreign trade geography.

The Krasnoyarsk Krai ranks second in the size of its territory among the subjects of Russian Federation. Its territory comprises 23 urban districts, 48 administrative territories, 40 urban-type settlements, 501 rural administrations, 3 Closed Administrative Territorial Units-rural settlement Solnechny, town of Zheleznogorsk and town of Zelenogorsk, which are combined into 10 zones with similar economy and common area.

The Krasnoyarsk Krai has a complex territorial structure. Its territories differ from each other in a quantity of natural resources and a level of industrial development.

5. Eastern part of the Lower Angara River territory (Boguchany and Kezhma territories);

6. Western part of the Lower Angara River territory (Kazachinsk, Pirovsk, Motygino, Yeniseisk, SeveroYeniseisk territories, towns of Yeniseisk and Lesosibirsk);

7. Achinsk group of territories (Achinsk, Birilussy, Bogotol, Bolshoy Uluy, Kozulka, Nazarovo, Tyukhtet, Uzhur, Sharypovo territories, towns of Achinsk, Bogotol, Nazarovo and Sharypovo);

8. Kansk group of territories (Aban, Dzerzhinsk, Ilansk, Irbey, Kansk, Nizhny Ingash, Partizansk, Rybinsky, Sayansky, Taseyevo, Uyar territories, towns of Kansk, Borodino and Zaozerny);

9. Krasnoyarsk group of territories (Balakhta, Beryozovka, Bolshaya Murta, Yemelyanovo, Mansky, Novoselovo, Sukhobuzimo territories, city of Krasnoyarsk, towns of Sosnovoborsk and Divnogorsk);

10. Southern group of territories (Yermakovo, Idra, Karatuz, Krasnoturansk, Kuragino, Minusinsk, Shushensky territories, town of Minusinsk).
