Transport complex and communication
Transportation system
Nowadays the Krasnoyarsk Krai is a large transport and transit center of the Siberian Federal District. The transport complex is represented by all types of transport: railway, pipelines, air, internal water and automobile. Unique geographical position of the Krasnoyarsk Krai at the crossing point of railway, air and automobile highways play an important role in the transport system functioning.
The turnover of transport services amounted to 55,1 billion, rubles, increased by 14,6 % in comparison with 2006. In 2007 all types of transport enterprises transported more than 67,2 million tons of cargoes (increase by 4,5 %). Railway transport dominates in the transportation system of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. Its share is 94 % in a volume of goods turnover).
The Transsiberian and the South-Siberian highways traverse the Krasnoyarsk Krai from the west to the east. The central part of the Krasnoyarsk Krai has a good railway communication with all industrially developed cities of the Krai as well as regions of Russia; Norilsk has a railway communication with a seaport of Dudinka. The route length of the Krasnoyarsk railway makes 3,2 thousand km.
In 2007 the volume of cargoes transported by rail increased by 3,3 % in comparison with 2006 and made 54,9 thousand tons. The basic volume of transportations on the Krasnoyarsk railway makes: coal — 49,1 %, oil and its products — 15,5 %, iron ore and manganese — 6,3 %, ferrous metals scrap — 1,0 %, ferrous metals — 0,2 %, chemical and mineral fertilizers — 0,1 %, cement — 0,8 %, timber cargoes — 7,9 %, grain and milling products — 0,5 %, other cargoes — 18,6 %.
The railway transport is managed by the Ministry of railways (Russia) which determines the schedule and tariffs. Only automobile transport allows to carry out transportation “from the storehouse to the door”. The share of the automobile transport in the freight turnover in the Krasnoyarsk Krai in 2007 was 0,8 %.
The total length of the general use road system with hard deposition is 47 300 km. The territory of the Krasnoyarsk Krai has two highways of regional designation: Novosibirsk — Krasnoyarsk — Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk — Kyzyl. Enterprises of this branch carry direct automobile transportation of freight to China, Mongolia and West Europe.
In 2007 the volume of freight transported by automobile transport increased by 7,8 % in comparison with 2006 and amounted to 7,0 th. tons.
Water transport is an integral component of the transport network of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. The length of water ways connecting northern and eastern parts of the Krai with Krasnoyarsk is 7 000 km. “Yenisei inland navigation company” JSC is the major carrier of cargoes along the Yenisei River. It has a powerful dry-cargo and tank fleet. An increasing number of passengers carried by domestic water transport is closely connected with the start of exploitation by “PassengerRiverTrans” JSC of 5 new ferries in Bolshaya Murta, Yeniseisk, Balakhta, Kazachinsk and Sukhobuzimo territories.
In 2007 the volume of cargoes transported by this type of transport reached 5,1 %. The Yenisei River ports of Krasnoyarsk and Lesosibirsk provide interaction between river and railway transport. North estuary ports of the Krai are fit for sea-going crafts to put in. The air transport is represented by 22 airports. On the basis of Krasnoyarsk airport a multimodal transportation connection point is forming. Air space of the region and the Krasnoyarsk airport are used for the flights within the framework of airlines through the North pole. “Krasnoyarsk airlines” JSC and “Airflot” JSC realize international and interregional air transportations; “Siberian aviatrans company” JSC, “Krasavia” State Regional Corporation, “Aircompany Turukhan” JSC, “Aircompany “Zapolarye” LLC and “Taimyr aircompany” LLC realize air transportations within the Krai, transportation of cargoes for the organizations in the territory, and "Volga — Dnepr" JSC carries out transit cargoes.
In 2007 the volume of cargoes transported by this type of transport reach 0,07 %. In 2007 the volume of cargoes transported by regular flights increased by 24,3 % in comparison with 2006 and amounted to 19,4 th. tons.

Pipeline transport
There are two state-owned pipelines in the Krasnoyarsk Krai, both of them are under the management of the Trans-Siberian pipeline department. Through these pipelines oil is transported from Tomsk and Tyumen (Western Siberia) to the Achinsk Oil-Refining Plant and to Irkutsk (Eastern Siberia). To increase the effectiveness of oil-refining and pipelines exploitation new technologies are used (fiberglass, pipe heating systems, alternative pipeline construction technology for regions with permafrost).
Loading facilities. Due to putting into operation “Uyar” loading facility, the service of accessorial and extra transportational activity has significantly increased. The volume of oil freight has increased as well.
Communication
The total amount of communication services has increased by 0,9 % (including services rendered to population — by 8,3 %), and made 20 980,5 mln rubles and 11 751,6 mln rubles, respectively. There are 220 operators of communication work in the Krasnoyarsk Krai. By January 1, 2008 about 567,6 thousand basic telephone devices were connected to a network of general use by traditional operators (increased by 2,3 % in comparison with January 1, 2007). Residential telephone sets made 474,7 thousand units (increased by 2 % in comparison with 2006).
